Offensive Weapon and Knife Carrying Protocol for Education (Newcastle)
When a child or young person makes the decision to take a knife, blade or other offensive weapon into a school, it is a serious one, with potentially fatal consequences, it can have a devastating impact upon their future whether it is used or not.
This protocol provides guidance for schools (Primary and Secondary) and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) if such incident occurs on the school’s premises.
Where there is information about a student carrying a weapon or knife in the community then this should be discussed with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and a Police Information and Intelligence Sharing Form completed and submitted to Northumbria Police.
