Child Sexual Abuse Resources

Child sexual abuse is often hidden, and many children never directly disclose what is happening to them. Instead, they may show signs through changes in behaviour, emotional wellbeing, relationships, attendance, or physical health. National safeguarding reviews have found that opportunities to protect children can be missed when professionals wait for proof or disclosure rather than responding to concerns.

To support practitioners in developing their confidence and competence in recognising and responding to child sexual abuse, a range of resources, learning materials, national reviews, and training opportunities are available below. These resources provide practical guidance on identifying signs and indicators, responding to concerns, listening to children, understanding safeguarding responsibilities, and taking appropriate action when abuse is suspected.

To help address this, we strongly encourage all practitioners working with children, young people and families to complete the free E-Learning Module on Identifying and Responding to Intra-familial Child Sexual Abuse, developed by the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA Centre) and funded by the Department for Education for a limited time only.
