Young people can experience concerns about their mental health throughout their childhood. As parents it can be difficult to know how to best support them, and where to seek the right support. The Newcastle Safeguarding Partnership has provided some links to useful sources of information and local services who may be able to provide help and support.

Young Minds: Provides information on the A-Z Mental Health; Guide to Mental Health Services; and information on Talking to Your Child About Mental Health. They also provide phone/online contact for advice.

Childline

Childline: Provides free and confidential phone contact to discuss your worries and concerns.

Local Support

Depending on the concerns regarding your child’s mental health different support s accessible:

Schools: Many schools will provide pastoral and counselling support for young people. It may be worth enquiring what support is available.

School Health: Can provide low level support regarding emotional and mental health concerns.

Streetwise: Provides a range of support to young people.

Children’s and Young People’s Service: Provides specialist mental health treatment.
