New Safeguarding Related Legislation Passed By Parliament
Two key safeguarding related bills received Royal Assent yesterday (29/04/26), meaning that the measures in the bills are now law, the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill and the Crime and Policing Bill. Individual clauses within the Acts will, however, have different commencement dates and children’s social care implementation plans will be published soon, setting out the next stages of reform, and will support local partners in navigating the implementation of measures.
These Acts contain significant changes to the safeguarding environment including key educational reforms, and affect safeguarding and social care including support for families and care leavers.
We have produced short briefings that capture some of the key changes and information for safeguarding partners.
