Ofsted’s Chief Inspector at the National Children and Adult Services Conference
Shortly before the Christmas holiday Sir Martyn Oliver, Ofsted’s Chief Inspector, spoke at the annual National Children and Adult Services Conference (NCASC) in Liverpool. In his speech at the 2024 National Children and Adult Services Conference, Sir Martyn highlighted several key points reflecting the drive toward a more collaborative, responsive, and effective approach to safeguarding and supporting children and families. :
- Collaboration and Listening: Sir Martyn emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue and collaboration between Ofsted and the sectors it oversees. He acknowledged the valuable input from practitioners and professionals through initiatives like the “Big Listen”
- Commitment to Improvement: He outlined Ofsted’s commitment to reform and improvement, detailing 132 actions that Ofsted will take in response to feedback from the “Big Listen.” These actions aim to uphold high standards for children while supporting those who work directly with them
- Sector Expertise: Sir Martyn highlighted the expertise within Ofsted’s inspection workforce, noting that many inspectors are experienced professionals from the sectors they inspect. This ensures that Ofsted’s work is informed by practical, on-the-ground knowledge
- Focus on Vulnerable Children: The speech underscored the importance of focusing on the needs of vulnerable children and ensuring that safeguarding practices are robust and effective
