Challenge Support Session
The Challenge and Support Sessions introduced by Newcastle Safeguarding aim to improve oversight and outcomes for children subject to Child Protection Plans (CPP) lasting 14 months or more.
Replacing the previous Designated Review Conferences, these sessions focus on reviewing the effectiveness of CPPs, preventing delays, and ensuring decisive action where necessary.
Led by a facilitator and supported by a Relational Practice Lead, the sessions use the “Rethink Formulation” model, analysing six key factors (presenting, precipitating, predictive, predisposing, perpetuating, and protective). The outcomes are documented, shared with relevant managers, and incorporated into the next Child Protection Review, with escalation to senior management if required.
