AI-generated sexual abuse and exploitation is growing

AI-generated sexual abuse and exploitation is growing. According the Internet Watch Foundation 3,440 AI-generated videos of child sexual abuse were found in 2025, compared to just 13 in 2024.

Close to Home is a new film from The Survivors Trust that highlights the growing threat of AI-generated child sexual abuse images and the devastating impact it can have on young people and their families.

At the heart of the film is Maisy, a 13-year-old girl whose life is turned upside down when sexually explicit AI-images of her are created and shared online. What begins online, quickly creates opportunities for further exploitation in her school.

The Survivors Trust want to show how Online harm can lead to real-world grooming, coercion and abuse.

Because child sexual abuse and exploitation isn’t something that happens somewhere else. It can happen close to home.

The Internet Watch Foundation and the National Crime Agency published new guidance for practitioners , “Child sexual abuse material generated by artificial intelligence – An essential guide for professionals who work with children and young people“, they also have guidance appropriate for parents and carers.
