MAPPA
MAPPA (Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements)
MAPPA is a framework through which the Police, Probation, and Prison Services work in partnership with other agencies to manage the risks posed by violent and sexual offenders living in the community, with the primary aim of protecting the public.
While MAPPA itself is not a statutory body, it provides a structured mechanism for agencies to coordinate their statutory responsibilities. Each agency involved retains full accountability for its legal duties.
Further Information
The MAPPA website offers detailed guidance for professionals and the public on how offenders are managed in the community. It also includes resources such as the MAPPA Thresholding Document, which explains how lead agencies determine the appropriate level of management for each case, based on risk and need and a downloadable “Ask the Expert” document with frequently asked questions and relevant links to the MAPPA Site.
You can also find lots of other useful explanations and guidance for the whole range of MAPPA activity and processes on their Other Publications page.
