Amplify: Hearing More Young Voices Across Newcastle
This autumn, the Voice and Influence team launched Amplify—a new way to ensure children and young people’s voices are heard across the city.
Amplify strengthens our links with schools and youth groups, reaching a wider range of young people. Workshops are delivered at least once a term, covering topics that matter to young people and their communities. Sessions are interactive and tailored to each group’s needs.
After each workshop, organisations receive a summary of the issues raised—helpful for evidencing pupil voice and sharing feedback. Insights are brought together to help shape services and priorities locally and citywide.
Recent sessions have taken place at; Jesmond Park Academy, Walker Riverside Academy, Bostey, Galafield, Projects for Change, and the Young Parents Group, with more planned.
What are young people saying?
• They value having someone to talk to in school and are concerned about the loss of counsellors.
• Waiting lists for mental health support are too long.
• Careers education is important, but young people want more opportunities.
• Student councils are a positive way to be heard.
• Young parents have raised issues around housing.
• Many want more things to do locally, especially at weekends.
Amplify also connects young people to our other opportunities, like Newcastle Youth Council and Young Inspectors.
If you’d like your school or group to get involved, please contact the Voice and Influence team by emailing voice@newcastle.gov.uk. Let’s keep amplifying young voices—together!
