Briefing: Children in Poverty

The government published its child poverty strategy on 5 December 2025. The latest data shows 31% of children were in relative poverty after housing costs in 2024/25 but some children and families are statistically more likely to experience both relative and material poverty.

This briefing summarises the data and highlights some of the characteristics of those children and families more likely to experience poverty.
