Briefing: Young Carers in Education
The DfE’s school census in January 2024 estimated there were around 54,000 state-funded school pupils known to be young carers; this is around 0.6% of all pupils.
This briefing outlines some of the ways that “young carers” are identified by partner agencies and some of the support available to both young carers and partners, such as access to counselling and additional Pupil Premium funding.
