Incident Description
- A school had Year 5/6 children visiting Safety Works who talked to the children about an AI-generated fake video being shared on Instagram that encourages children to walk on Metro tracks
Guidance for Safeguarding Response
- Staff at Safety Works addressed this by telling children not to believe everything that they see online and staff reiterated this message through assemblies and lessons back in school
- School sent parents/carers a text sharing this information and encouraging them to discuss this information with their child focusing on the dangers if they tried this and the potentially fatal outcome.
- Leaders added to their annual safeguarding plan the intention to reinforce this each half term, highlighting the dangers of online disinformation leading to life-threatening actions.
Additional actions which could be considered:
- Pol-ed sessions for the key stage such as ‘What do we mean by risk?’
