Guidance for Safeguarding Response

  • School made a Prevent referral which was picked up and the Chanel programme provided tailored support
  • Information was recorded on the school’s safeguarding system for the child involved (Category of Behaviour: Unsafe Online and Prevent referral to demonstrate school’s action)
  • Parents were informed. School’s concerns were escalated when dad encouraged his son’s activity calling it ‘creative’ and mum minimised her son’s actions stating that he was just ‘playing around
  • Based on parents’ response to the incident, a referral was made to children’s social care. After a conversation with parents the social worker advised Early help. Parents declined this offer

Additional actions which could be considered:

  • Pol-ed sessions for the wider group from secondary resources such as ‘What is extremism?’
