Incident Description

A student came forward and disclosed that they were part of group chat on WhatsApp with other students across many year groups in school.

• Somebody had added a random male into the group (approximate age 30), he had posted a series of naked images of himself and offered a group call in which people could watch him masturbate. Some students left the group but over 10 students watched the video call and described the graphic scene in detail via a series of messages. The man was based in France

Guidance for Safeguarding Response

• School informed the police who interviewed all of the children involved
• School informed all parents and shared safety plans developed around being more critically aware of online relationships and legal activity online
• Targeted activities for children to share their voice around online risks

Additional actions which could be considered:

Pol-ed sessions for the group and wider peer group from secondary resources such as ‘What is child sexual exploitation?’, ‘What are sexual offences?’ and ‘are we responsible with social media?

Police investigation completed with no further action.
