Incident Description
A Reception child told his headteacher he was in the beer bar last night dancing with the sexy ladies and gyrated his hips whilst sharing this. On digging deeper, the headteacher discovered that he was actually in his living room whilst his 14 year old brother was playing Grand Theft Auto on their 60 inch screen TV. He was describing the scenes in the strip club.
Guidance for Safeguarding Response
- School discussed with the parent the inappropriateness of the content the children are being exposed to and the explicit sexual nature of the content and the impact this can have on a child
- School shared explicitly that it is a parent’s role to protect from harm and being exposed to such graphic and violent content can be seen as emotional and sexual abuse (even in a computer game) This is highly inappropriate and to continue to expose her child to the game knowing the content would suggest she is not effectively safeguarding her child
- Early Help had been previously offered but turned down
- School logged this incident on their record keeping system. If online exposure concerns continue, school advised to record, re-offer Early Help and then re-refer into CSC
