Police Guidance – Victim Information Requests

A new Code of Practice, which applies exclusively to requests for victim third party material, was published on the gov.uk website below on 1 December 2025 and will come into effect on 12 January 2026.
The new Code reinforces existing principles in relation to police requests for third party material, as well as introducing new additional requirements for victim counselling record requests.

This guidance should be used for all policing requests within a criminal investigation where there is an expectation of privacy and is embedded into the request form itself so it will be accessible every time police make a third party material request.
