Finsta accounts

A finsta is a private secondary social media account. Finsta accounts are usually owned by young people alongside a more public facing profile.

They are private secondary social media profiles, originally on Instagram but now common across TikTok, Snapchat, Facebook, and other platforms. They are smaller, more private accounts used to post photos or videos that are unedited, and intended for a small audience of close friends, as opposed to the wider internet.

Users may feel more comfortable sharing more personal information, such as current struggles they are experiencing, where friends can see and offer support. It gives them an opportunity to express themselves authentically.

Young people may want to keep the account hidden from parents, other people at their school.

Sometimes they may be trying to ensure they are more protected from scammers.
