A Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) is  a specialized team that identifies, preserves, collects, analyzes, and presents evidence from digital devices (phones, computers, etc.) for criminal, civil, or internal investigations, helping to recover data, crack passwords, and provide expert testimony for cases like fraud, exploitation, or cybercrimes, bridging technology and law enforcement/legal proceedings.
Key Functions
  • Data Acquisition: Legally obtaining data from diverse sources like smartphones, laptops, tablets, and storage devices.
  • Analysis: Examining digital media for relevant information, including deleted files, internet history, communications, and financial records.
  • Evidence Preservation: Ensuring digital evidence isn’t tampered with, maintaining its integrity for court.
  • Reporting & Testimony: Creating reports and acting as expert witnesses to explain complex technical findings in court.
  • Password Cracking: Recovering data from encrypted or password-protected files.
