A Community Impact Assessment (CIA) is a systematic process used by organizations (like police or local councils) to evaluate how new or changed policies, projects, or events might affect different groups within a community, aiming to minimize negative consequences, ensure fairness (especially regarding protected characteristics like age, race, disability), and build community trust by understanding potential disruptions, gathering local feedback, and planning positive outcomes. It serves as a tool for transparent decision-making, ensuring services are accessible and equitable for everyone. Community impact assessments (CIAs) and community tension summaries (CTSs) can be used to gather the opinions and feelings of local communities. These can then be fed into the national picture regarding unrest and community-based issues.
