Briefing: Youth Unemployment Statistics
Since 2022, youth unemployment has been gradually increasing. In October to December 2024, there were 104,000 more unemployed young people than just before the pandemic. The current data indicates 642,000 young people aged 16 to 24 were unemployed in the period October to December 2024.
The House of Commons library has published a briefing document on statistics relating youth unemployment which examines some of the problems with data integrity and the reporting cycle, and includes a summary analysis of the latest available data.
