Briefing: Youth Unemployment Statistics

This briefing presents the latest statistics on youth unemployment in the UK as well as comparisons with other OECD countries.

In March to May 2025:

there were 628,000 young people aged 16 to 24 who were unemployed, 31,000 more than the previous year. The unemployment rate for young people was 14.2%, up from 13.8% from the year before
there were 3.80 million young people aged 16 to 24 in employment, 64,000 more than the previous year. The employment rate for young people was 51.2%, the same as the year before
there were 2.99 million young people aged 16 to 24 who were economically inactive, 32,000 more than the previous year. The inactivity rate for young people was 40.4%, down slightly from 40.6% from the year before.
