Briefing Published on Duties to Report Child Abuse in England
There is currently no general statutory obligation for individuals in England to report child abuse, only an expectation that those working with children will comply with the statutory guidance unless there are exceptional circumstances.
The House of Commons library has published a briefing document on reporting child abuse in England, including the government’s plans to introduce a mandatory reporting duty.
The briefing summarises the recent debate regarding mandatory reporting, the current legislative position and some of the previous and present government’s proposals.
