Resource: Making Every Contact Count (MECC)

Making Every Contact Count (MECC) is an evidence-based behavioural approach that encourages frontline health, social care, and public-facing staff to use everyday interactions to support individuals in making positive lifestyle changes.

MECC trains professionals to initiate brief or very brief conversations (often taking less than two minutes) to address key health and wellbeing risk factors: Healthy Choices: Discussing diet, physical activity, and weight management. Lifestyle Habits: Providing advice on stopping smoking and reducing alcohol consumption. Mental Wellbeing: Promoting mental health and the “Five Ways to Wellbeing”.

Utilize the MECC Gateway to find localized support for a range of issues including mental health, cost of living, and housing across the North-East and North Cumbria.
