Children’s Society: UK’s first research report dedicated to child financial exploitation and exploitative money laundering

This report presents the findings of research to better understand child financial exploitation. Through interviews with frontline professionals the Children’s Society highlight that this as an emerging issue that is still poorly understood and that there is an urgent need to both address this gap and for greater collaboration between agencies in order to effectively safeguard children from harm.

Tackling financial exploitation: Youth voice insights

This report looks at what young people understand about financial exploitation and what they think are the best ways to support those at risk or already experiencing it. The Children’s Society have also worked with young people to create a resource that helps raise awareness and shows where to get help, shaped by their ideas and experiences.

The Children’s Society are also holding an online webinar #LookCloser: Financial Exploitation” 10-12 pm, 17/07/2025 to:

  • explore recent learning and emerging insights on the financial exploitation of children and young people.
  • Share experiences from The Children’s Society’s national Prevention Programme’s work alongside learning from partners including law enforcement, social care, and the banking and finance sector.
  • Consider the implications of our findings with regards to safeguarding young people from harm and preventing their exploitation.
  • Create an interactive opportunity to hear about how other professionals are responding to this emerging area.
  • Provide a space to consider your own ability to identify and respond to Financial Exploitation and contribute to The Children’s Society’s evidence gathering and research on this topic.
