Year of the Adolescent: Drugs and Alcohol

Event Details

Join Positive Futures to explore the complex reasons behind why young people use drugs and alcohol, and how practitioners can respond safely, confidently, and effectively within a safeguarding context.

In this session, you will:

Gain insight into current trends emerging within a local context, including substances of concern and safeguarding challenges linked to them

Examine the social, emotional, and developmental factors influencing substance use (including the impact of trauma, peer influence and mental health)

Explore the language young people use around drugs and alcohol, and how language – both theirs and ours – can influence engagement, disclosure and access to support

Learn how to have open, non-judgemental conversations with young people about alcohol and substances

Understand the role of Positive Futures in supporting young people.

This session is suitable for:
Professionals who work directly with children and young people, including those in education, health, social care, youth work, and the voluntary sector.
