SUMMARY:HAF Newcastle Training - Positive Masculinity Train the Trainer
DESCRIPTION:HAF Newcastle Training\nStreetGames are working in partnership with Little Blackbird to deliver a Positive Masculinity Train the Trainer Programme. This is a ‘train the trainer’ type programme for staff/ volunteers with limited spaces so for now\, the offer is 15 places with one place per organisation (there will be a waiting list for additional applications). \nIdeally the same staff member will attend all sessions and will be a ‘frontline’ worker who works directly with the young people we are hoping this programme will benefit. \nThe key objectives of the programme are; \n  \n\nInform & Educate – Explore the social\, cultural and systemic influences on masculinity\, the negative impact of ‘toxic’ masculinity\, and the benefits of positive expressions of masculinity.\nDevelop confidence and innovation within teams – Support staff with creative skills of engagement to promote positive masculinity in our direct work with young people\, with a clear call to action to implement.\nSupport the creation and development of initiatives in each organisation.\nPeer to Peer Support – To create and strengthen supportive networks between organisations\, sparking positive ideas\, collaborative working opportunities and sharing best practice.\n\nAll sessions will take place at The Lighthouse Project\, St Michaels Mount\, Byker\, Newcastle\, NE6 2FT\, 9.30am – 4.30pm – dates; \n\nTues 27th and Wed 28th Jan\nTues 24th and Wed 25th Feb\nTues 21st and Wed 22nd April.\n\nSpaces will be prioritised for those who have delivered HAF within the last 12 months.  If this is not applicable to your organisation but you wish to book a place\, please get in touch to discuss.   \nTo book a place or find out more contact Tracey Machnicki – HAF Programme Manager

SUMMARY:Year of the Adolescent Programme: Carer Aware
DESCRIPTION:1 in 12 young people have caring responsibilities for a family member or friend due to illness\, disability\, mental health illness or addiction. We know that on average young carers achieve 9 grades lower than their peers at GCSE level. We know that young carers miss an average of 23 school days a year\, with almost half of young carers in secondary schools persistently absent. We know that 48% young carers reported being bullied in the last year. What is being done to protect and support these young people?  \nIt takes the average carer 2 years to identify themselves as a ‘carer’\, for young carers it can take significantly longer. At Newcastle Carers we see young carers coming to us in crisis\, struggling with their own health and wellbeing\, caring in isolation\, and often juggling complex and inappropriate caring responsibilities. This workshop will instill you with the skills and knowledge to identify young carers and embed support within your own organisation. You will be equipped with information about specialist support for young carers in the region\, ensuring that we work together to identify young carers and ensure they have all appropriate support in place.  \nThis workshop will help us to work towards preventative support for young carers\, ensuring adolescents with caring responsibilities get the right support\, at the right time\, giving them a voice and a choice in their caring journey.

SUMMARY:Rethink Formulation Half Day Face to Face Workshop
DESCRIPTION:These workshops are for Practitioners and managers working with children and families in Newcastle on a statutory or early intervention basis. \nReThink Formulation is a key component of a Relational and Restorative Approach to Practice. When working with families\, services can get into a pattern of assessments and short-term interventions that end when there have been improvements. However\, families often need help again. Rethink Formulation uses an evidence-based model of case formulation to help us organise information and structure our conversations to reach a shared understanding of a family and their presenting issues\, from which we can base our plans. This formulation can travel with the family into different services and should reduce the number of assessments they have by providing an effective way to analyse the information we already have about their strengths and needs. Rethinking what we know about a family\, and what we then do with that knowledge\, is key to working with that family in a restorative and sustainable way. \nThis is a half day of intensive coaching in the art of formulation. This can leave children experiencing long periods of unaddressed harm\, with the severity of neglect increasing over time. \nHere in Newcastle\, the NSCP has identified neglect as a key local priority due to its recurrence in audits\, learning reviews\, and frontline practice.
