SUMMARY:Year of the Adolescent: Gaming and Gambling Awareness
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Year of the Adolescent\, this training series shines a spotlight on the growing issue of youth gambling and its impact on wellbeing\, decision‑making\, and future life chances. These sessions will explore how gambling behaviours develop\, why young people are particularly vulnerable\, and the subtle ways gambling-like mechanics appear in everyday environments—from online games to social media. \n\nThis series will equip practitioners with the knowledge and confidence to recognise early indicators\, understand associated risks\, and provide effective support and guidance. Whether you work directly with young people or support families and communities\, these sessions offer vital insight into a rapidly evolving safeguarding concern. \n\nThis 3 hour training session is aimed at Residential and Foster Care staff. \nBook Now

SUMMARY:Year of the Adolescent Programme: Adolescent Brain Development
DESCRIPTION:This multimodal presentation will provide an overview of adolescent brain development\, including what neuroscience tells us about this stage of development.  We will explore how adolescent brain development can impact on a young person’s social\, emotional and cognitive development; identity formation; and behaviour\, as well as helpful relational responses to promote connection. \nTrusting Hands Gateshead/Future Focus Newcastle are multidisciplinary teams of mental health practitioners implementing trauma-informed care approaches across Gateshead/Newcastle Children’s Social Care respectively\, as part of the NHS England Framework for Integrated Care (Community). The aims of the services are to provide support to ‘high risk\, high harm\, high vulnerability’ young people through a relationally based\, psychologically informed approach.

SUMMARY:Rethink Formulation Half Day Face to Face Workshop
DESCRIPTION:These workshops are for Practitioners and managers working with children and families in Newcastle on a statutory or early intervention basis. \nReThink Formulation is a key component of a Relational and Restorative Approach to Practice. When working with families\, services can get into a pattern of assessments and short-term interventions that end when there have been improvements. However\, families often need help again. Rethink Formulation uses an evidence-based model of case formulation to help us organise information and structure our conversations to reach a shared understanding of a family and their presenting issues\, from which we can base our plans. This formulation can travel with the family into different services and should reduce the number of assessments they have by providing an effective way to analyse the information we already have about their strengths and needs. Rethinking what we know about a family\, and what we then do with that knowledge\, is key to working with that family in a restorative and sustainable way. \nThis is a half day of intensive coaching in the art of formulation. You will learn what the Rethink Formulation model is\, the theory behind it\, where else you might see the principles of formulation and be given the opportunity to practice the model\, and consider how else the model may be used creatively in your practice with children and their families. \nBooking Form \nTo book a place\, please complete booking form and return to wfdadmin@newcastle.gov.uk

SUMMARY:Neglect: Introductory Session
DESCRIPTION:Neglect remains one of the most widespread and damaging forms of child harm\, occurring when a child is not adequately cared for or kept safe. It often develops gradually\, making it harder to identify early and allowing cumulative harm to build — the slow\, compounding impact of unmet needs on a child’s health\, development\, and wellbeing. \nNationally\, neglect continues to be the most common reason for children being placed on child protection plans\, and research shows that early opportunities to intervene are frequently missed. This can leave children experiencing long periods of unaddressed harm\, with the severity of neglect increasing over time. \nHere in Newcastle\, the NSCP has identified neglect as a key local priority due to its recurrence in audits\, learning reviews\, and frontline practice. As we launch this programme of events\, we will explore different aspects of neglect\, strengthen our shared understanding\, and focus on improving our multi‑agency response to prevent cumulative harm and ensure children are safe\, supported\, and able to thrive.
